3 Questions to Ask Yourself BEFORE Buying Your New Home

Buying your new home is a BIG decision. You're most likely looking at paying on a mortgage for the next 15-30 years, so it's vital that you and your family find a house you love. To help ease the tension when making this big decision, the best real estate agent at the Lake of the Ozarks is here to give you a few questions to ask yourself before buying your new home.

3 Questions to Ask Yourself BEFORE Buying Your New Home

1. How long do I see myself living in this area?

This is a good question to ask yourself, before buying a home, because:

You may love the area you're looking to live in now, but how do you think you will feel about it 5 years from now? What ties you to the area? Perhaps you have family that lives there or a great job in the area. You may admire the school districts in the area and think it would be a great place to raise a family. You may even be looking to retire in that area because from what you know about the area, it's a great place to relax and enjoy your retirement. These are all things to consider before making the commitment of buying a new home. Do your research! Consult with an experienced real estate agent at the Lake of the Ozarks. I can tell you that the Lake of the Ozarks is a great place to live, whether you are starting a family or retiring.

2. Is my life pretty stable?

This is a good question to ask yourself, before buying a home, because:

Where are you at in your life right now? Do you feel confident enough in the job you have right now to afford a mortgage payment for the next 30 years? If you lost your job, do you feel like you could get by paying your mortgage payments for a few months, while looking for a new job? If not, you may need to reevaluate your options and reconsider if buying a new home is the best thing for you at this point in your life.

3. How much can I afford to pay on a house?

This is a good question to ask yourself, before buying a home, because:

What is your yearly salary? Is it enough to afford the home you've been dreaming of buying? You also need to factor in all of the other bills that go along with owning a home. In addition to a mortgage payment, you'll need to be able to afford your:

  • homeowners insurance
  • electric/energy bill (which will most likely be higher, than where you were renting)
  • taxes on home
  • water bill
  • trash bill
  • any sort of HOA fees (if applicable)
...and more depending on your situation. Prepare yourself financially.
